Tiger Volleyball Runs Win Streak to Eight, Assumes Top Spot in Ivy League

Box Score Cara Mattaliano, the reigning Ivy League Player of the Year, led all players with 14 kills, while freshman Maggie O’Connell added 12 to lead the Princeton women’s volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Columbia in New York City. The victory moves Princeton atop the Ivy League standings with a 4-0 mark, while only two other teams have a 3-1 record.

Princeton won the match 25-15, 25-23, 25-21 for its eighth straight victory, its longest win streak since the Tigers won eight straight during the 2008 season. The Tigers, who head to Ithaca, N.Y., to take on Cornell Saturday, now hold a one-match lead over both Columbia and Yale, while both Penn and Harvard have 2-2 records.

Mattaliano, the Ivy League leader in kills, led a balanced Princeton attack that hit .248 for the match. Reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Week Devon Peterkin added seven kills and 13 digs, while classmateJessica Harris posted 42 assists and 12 digs. The middle duo of Brittany Ptak and Nnenna Ibe combined for 11 kills and four digs in the win, Princeton’s 14th victory in its last 15 Ivy League matches.
