Bill Power

Bill Power is a resident of Harbor Island, and a graduate of USC School of Engineering in 1950. He is now the owner of Cal-a-Vie, an exclusive health resort located forty miles north of San Diego in Vista. Bill’s expertise in the health care industry comes from developing, owning and operating a number of acute care health institutions. The list includes the Westminster and Huntington Hospitals in Orange County, the Encinitas Hospital in North County San Diego, the Methodist Hospital in Sacramento, Cigna Health Plan Medical Center in Los Angeles as well as a number of convalescent and medical centers.

He also developed Beech Street Healthcare, a health-care cost-containment company that controls hospital utilization and medical costs for major corporations as well as Medical Data System and a computer service for hospitals now widely used. Other accomplishments include his active participation in such demanding sports as skiing and international yacht racing (he was on the U.S. Team in 1982 in Sardinia, Italy; he was captain of the U.S. Admiral’s Cup Team in England in 1985; and for a number of winning national regattas including the San Francisco Big Boat Series).

Bill has just retired in January after 35 years in the hospital business and 45 years in the construction and real estate business. As a result of his intense interest for health and wellness, he developed the internationally famous Cal-a-Vie spa-his avocation. Bill’s personal enthusiasm for establishing wellness through actively participating in a program devoted to good health, fitness and nutritional habits is the foundation for the spa.
